Asbestos Cleanup
1,500 sites may pay thousands for asbestos
cleanup – again
ALBANY, NY — Firms that test for asbestos
are reporting an increase in business since news broke that a Latham, NY
company may have botched more than 1,500 cleanup jobs in schools, businesses
and homes over 10 years, the
Times Union reported Thursday.
The principals of AAR Contractor, Alex and Raul Salvagno, were convicted in
March of racketeering and environmental crimes for rushing asbestos
cleanups, while secretly owning a testing lab that faked as many as 75,000
air samples. Last week, federal prosecutors released the list of 1,550 jobs that AAR and
the lab did between 1990 and 1999, according to the Times Union. The article said because the original follow-up tests were likely
fraudulent, it's critical that homeowners and building and facilities
managers make sure their homes and workplaces are safe, a federal agent said
Wednesday.
If asbestos is found, schools and firms may have to spend thousands on
asbestos cleanup – again.
